When we travel, our money follows a path.
We pay for accommodation, food, excursions, transport and experiences…
But how much of that money actually stays in the place we visit?

Does it reach local communities?
The people who produce the food?
Local guides?
Does it contribute to protecting nature and cultural heritage?
Tourism generates wealth, but the question is who benefits from it and who has a say in how that wealth is used.
Community-based tourism offers another way of doing things: ensuring that communities are protagonists, that benefits are distributed more fairly, and that tourism contributes to the wellbeing of the territory that makes it possible.
Because travelling is not only about choosing where to go.
It is also about choosing who we support when we get there.
🌿 When you visit a community, how much of what you spend actually stays there?
